what is 'carbon neutral'?
A product can be classified as 'carbon neutral' only if its manufacturer has accounted for, reduced and then offset the direct and indirect greenhouse gases emitted during the product's life cycle.
Reflex Ultra White Carbon Neutral is certified as carbon neutral following a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment, which was verified by an independent third party auditor. This process involved 5 steps:
Step 1: Undertake a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the product, and produce an emissions monitoring plan for five years. This involved establishing the system boundaries of the paper-making process as well as calculating all emissions associated with the manufacturing of Reflex Ultra White Carbon Neutral.
Step 2: Calculate the carbon emissions per tonne of finished product
Step 3: The process is then audited by a Government-approved independent third party.
Step 4: The proposal is submitted to the Australian Carbon Trust administrator, and the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency for review and approval.
Step 5: Purchase of eligible carbon offsets for all unavoidable emissions. These offsets contribute to investments in projects including the production of renewable energy.
Reflex is currently undergoing transition of its certification from Greenhouse Friendly™ to the new National Carbon Offset Standard Carbon Neutral Program this product labelling will signify that the product has been through a rigorous certification process. These credentials further demonstrate Reflex’s commitment to deliver products which are reliable, environmentally responsible and socially beneficial.
